Back in the 1970’s two separate research firms independently came up with the theory of the “Big 5″ personality traits. These traits are five essential binary oppositions present in every human personality.

Closed-Minded — Open to New Experiences
Disorganized — Conscientious
Introverted — Extraverted
Disagreeable — Agreeable
Calm/Relaxed — Nervous/High-Strung

When you take a Big 5 personality test you receive a score in each of these categories. For example, you might be 80% extraverted, 60% disagreeable and 50%/50% in the Calm/Relaxed — Nervous/High-Strung opposition.
